Electric shocks can vary in intensity enormously. Some shocks are so tiny that they may not even be felt, particularly by an anesthetised patient. But they may lead to major problems, such as ventricular fibrillation of the heart.

Shocks of around 10mA may be felt as an unpleasant tingle - sedated patients may not react to in a way that would alert medical staff. Larger currents can of course deliver to a fatal body-blow to patient or staff.

To address this potential problem medical facility need to be properly earthed using Benders range of earth reference bars and equipotential earthing points.
