”Lead-free production” – an issue that has been subject of intensive discussions in the electrical and electronic industry for many years. The term ”lead-free” has long since become a universal designation for the six substances that are classified as being hazardous under the European Union Directive on the Restriction of use of certain Hazardous Substances - EU RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominatedbiphenyls and diphenyl ethers. The already applicable EU directives WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and the respective national laws prohibit the use of lead and other environmentally hazardous substances, as well as placing old products on the market that are not in compliance with the directive for certain device categories since July, 1, 2006 onwards.
It is therefore essential that project engineers, plant manufacturers or users in industrial or building complexes check on the availability of RoHS-conform products to ensure that they are ”leadfree”. The BENDER GROUP is committed to the central idea behind this environmental legislation and has therefore formulated this as a corporate objective. Although our products still fall under one of the few temporary exceptional regulations, we have been substituting the environmentally hazardous substances under the RoHS directive for eco-friendly alternatives since 2003. Hence, all device developments within the BENDER GROUP have been geared towards the ”Future Generation” for a considerable time already.
Whenever necessary, our production lines were replaced with state-of-the-art machinery and equipment to meet the technological challenges placed by the modified production processes. Our commitment to our declared goal has resulted in an increase in the market availability of eco-orientated electrical and electronic components. On July, 1, 2005, the first RoHS-conform device was presented to the management. This was also the date on which the first RoHS-conform BENDER products became available, precisely one year before the new legislation came into force. We are pleased to embark on this path with our customers - to greatly relieve the environment and provide a safe future for the generations to come.
Lead-free optimised
Lead-free means: lead-free components, lead-free solder, higher temperatures and new processes. To meet the changed conditions in the soldering process, we have invested in new soldering equipment and optimised our soldering processes.
”RoHS” marking
All RoHS-conform products carry the RoHS marking on the packaging or are marked via the article number. This guarantees ”reproducability” at all times.
