Medical IT Systems and Critical Power

Medical IT systems, changeover modules and transformer cabinets for medical locations differ significantly from the systems that are typically used in the industry and feature many more components.

The Medical IT system also known as an isolated power system, is the backbone of a reliable power system in medical locations.

Bender Medical IT systems and changeover devices are designed for Group 2 medical locations in accordance with IEC60364-7-710:2021, BS 7671:2018 18th Edition and HTM 06-01:2017.

Medical IT systems provide continuity of supply in the event of the first earth fault and protection from electrical leakage currents. This reduces the risk of a shock hazard occurring, ensuring the protection of patients and hospital staff.

A secondary power supply is critical to ensuring that patient safety is maintained in the event of power failure. Most hospitals and medical facilities have backup generators on-site, but in medical locations such as Group 2, further resilience is required.

These areas also require an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to enhance resilience and provide critical cover with an immediate changeover to an alternative power source when required. A UPS provides an emergency power supply to specified loads in the event of mains power failure.

Bender can design, install and maintain critical care power systems for Group 2 medical locations as a stand-alone project or part of a full turnkey theatre package.
