Battery Backup Units (BBU)

In line with the requirements of HTM06-01 regulations, part 16.78, power back-up is essential in case main power is lost during a surgical procedure. Should this happen a DC 24V battery takes over to provide standby power for the duration of the battery autonomy.

Depending on spatial requirements, budget and application Bender can offer a range of solutions. Floor or wall mounted systems are available with several different metering options.

Features

Battery back-up systems are available in two styles:

Unmaintained:
Unmaintained battery cabinets are normally placed in a plant room or ‘dirty corridor’ which provides easy access. On the cabinets themselves will have a light to indicate Fault, Batteries in use and Batteries Discharged. A light is also feasible on the surgeon’s panel to indicate ‘batteries in use’.

Key Features:

  • Sealed Batteries - to increase reliability
  • Separate to theatre lights
  • Proven top quality components used
  • 3 hours of emergency power
  • Volt and Amp indicators are installed to show the battery voltage and charging current
  • Fault lights to indicate the condition of the cabinet
  • 'Batteries in use' indicator on surgeons panel*

Maintained:

Maintained battery cabinets are normally placed in a plant room or 'dirty corridor' which provide easy access. On the cabinets themselves will have lights to indicate Fault, Batteries in use and batteries discharged. A light is also feasible on the surgeons panel to indicate 'batteries in use'.

Maintenance reduced as all electrical components (including theatre light power supply / electrical cards) are placed within the cabinet thus having all components in one place. This reduces down time and the need to disturb a working theatre environment.

Key Features:

  • Sealed Batteries - to increase reliability
  • Separate to theatre lights
  • Proven top quality components used
  • 3 hours of emergency power
  • Volt and Amp indicators are installed to show the battery voltage and charging current
  • Fault lights to indicate the condition of the cabinet
  • 'Batteries in use' indicator on surgeons panel
  • All electrical supply and theatre light cards are kept in one place.
  • Reduced down time of the theatre

Additional Options

  • Inverter - for distances greater than 10 meters (up to 100 metres max)
  • This is dependent on if there is already a cable installed from the surgeon’s panel to the battery backup. If no cable is present, we are able to provide this option at an extra cost.
