We are proud to have won the Patient Safety Award at the Building Better Healthcare Awards 2026 for our work at Northampton General Hospital. The award recognises the successful upgrade of critical electrical infrastructure to strengthen power resilience and support patient safety.
The award was received on 4 November by Sam Parry, Mark Wells and Alison Cassells from our healthcare team.
Our project modernised electrical systems serving the hospital’s orthopaedic operating theatres, recovery areas and the Gosset Ward neonatal unit. We delivered the lifecycle replacement of medical IT system components, alongside upgraded insulation monitoring, touchscreen remote alarm panels, gateway devices and remote diagnostic capabilities.
The wider critical power upgrade also included uninterruptible power supplies, increased backup capacity and equipotential bonding. Together, these improvements provide layered electrical protection for clinical environments where continuity of power is essential.
Working safely within live hospital areas was central to the project. We carefully phased installation, commissioning and replacement activity around ongoing patient care. Within the neonatal unit, circuits were replaced sequentially, allowing individual channels to be isolated while essential power remained available to support vulnerable and premature babies.
The upgraded infrastructure now provides clinical and estates teams with clearer, real-time visibility of system status. This helps teams identify faults earlier and supports proactive maintenance and electrical risk reduction.
